SABBATICAL AWARDEES

2018 Awardee

Robyn Thomas

as Executive Director, Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence

Robyn Thomas is Executive Director of Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, the nation’s foremost public interest law center promoting gun safety.  Robyn is the visionary expert overseeing the Giffords Law Center’s life-saving legal, legislative and public education programs at local, state and federal levels.  Robyn also spearheads partnerships with other pro bono law firms and community organizations, including the Urban Gun Violence Initiative, and Firearms Accountability Counsel Taskforce.  Robyn has testified as an expert witness before Congress, is a powerful and visible national spokesperson, and was featured in Katie Couric’s 2016 documentary, Under the Gun.

Under Robyn’s leadership, Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence has experienced dramatic operational and programmatic expansion of its staff, budget and influence, recently completing a merger with the organization founded by Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly.  This sabbatical marks a crucial opportunity for Robyn to reflect and recharge, spend time with her family, travel, and enjoy rare time for herself.  It is also an excellent catalyst for the organization to further elevate the leadership of its management team.

Robyn says, “We often work directly with survivors of gun violence, so I have a very personal sense of the positive, life-saving impact of our work.  This impact inspires me to create a better and safer world for our children.  My sabbatical will allow me much-needed time to reflect and take care of myself so I can keep fighting to prevent the epidemic of gun violence.”
